DESCRIPCIÓN
In 1919, aviation pioneers conquered the Magdalena River, turning it into a take-off and landing strip for aircraft made of fabric and wood. A century later, FACSAT-1 (the second Colombian-made satellite, and the first on behalf of the Colombian Air Force) orbits the Earth, projecting the leadership of a Force with a vocation for foolproof service.
In a permanent process of training and innovation, the Colombian Air Force has developed and strengthened capabilities to carry out air operations in defense of the sovereignty, independence and integrity of the national territory, the constitutional order and the achievement of the goals of the State. Guaranteeing the fulfillment of this mission requires exercising effective control of airspace.
The training, training and training of aviators, which initially depended on foreign missions, was transformed exponentially to respond to the geographical features of the national territory, as well as the social, political and economic situation that dominated much of the 20th century. , turning the Force into a reference for the hemisphere and the world.
Celebrating one hundred years means projecting an institution towards a greater destiny of glory and greatness. A new stage where an ideal is glimpsed and the best course to achieve it is defined. The Colombian Air Force will continue working, advancing to explore and conquer it, responding to all Colombians who recognize its leadership in airspace security. It will star, as until now, in crucial moments in the future of the country. The missions, beyond war, will be different and the operational concepts will change, requiring an adaptation that will be achieved without forgetting that it is made up of pilots, crew members, rescuers, administrators, engineers, soldiers, children, a family, a universe, who expresses the very essence of the Colombian people.
On the verge of turning one hundred years old—100 years exploring the heights in search of victory—the FAC formalized a new organizational structure, the result of a process that began with an internal review and evaluation, a judicious study that established the criteria to project the Institution , adjusting it to the new national realities, based on respect and reaffirmation of the foundations, principles, tradition and history. Today it is made up of a General Staff and three commands.
The book offers its readers the most distinguished human manifestation: his passion for flight. There is no exact chronology for reading it; each paragraph ensures a clear sky and calm wind to enjoy.
