ARC Gloria Training Ship - 50 years (2018)

$206,000.00

DESCRIPCIÓN

The Gloria training ship, that emblematic and familiar ship of the Colombian Navy, is now fifty years old , whose imposing image with its sails spread and its crew on board exalts us as Colombians, rekindling the affection that we all feel for it.

This book aspires to tell the story of the "greatest Colombian naval pride", as it has been described. Starting from the anecdotal and now remote episode of its origin, which would culminate with the decree that authorized its purchase in 1966; going through its construction stages in the Spanish shipyards chosen for it, including the curious chronicle of its figurehead; his long-awaited and happy arrival in Cartagena de Indias in November 1968; the many journeys undertaken since then, never free of risks and adventures; until the pleasant celebration this year of its half century of existence.

Supported by testimonies from those who have directed and accompanied it, from those who have been trained and learned to be sailors, this list of facts allows us to see why the Gloria sailboat , the only one in its class in the Colombian Navy, is another symbol of the country, such as the flag, anthem or coat of arms. The Gloria —a living expression of naval diplomacy—is our senior ambassador and majestic emissary to the ocean and the ports where it docks. We will also know about that intimate and human part of those who spend a good part of their lives there: stories, memories, longings..., moving, funny and in many cases amazing. For everything that is told here and much more, this sailboat called Gloria – Declared an asset of cultural interest since 2005 – has earned a prominent place in our history and is part of our most heartfelt belongings as a country.

“To delve into this book is to savor Colombia's seafaring life at its finest, it is to feel direct contact with the sea and the immensity, it is art, it is inspiration, it is photography, it is a reflection of many generations, but perhaps the most important thing is ", is to feel the love that Gloria awakens for Colombians."
