Viewed from today, Manuel Hernández's solid artistic career seems to be marked by an obsessive fidelity to the signs he uses and the profound spiritual repercussions they produce. Signs that, without haste, gradually conquered and settled permanently in the space of his canvases. Unmitigatedly abstract, Hernández's work is entirely alien to any attempt at representation, without this in any way conflicting with the richness of suggestions it opens up or the world of evocations it arouses. Despite its apparently simple themes and misleading uniformity, this artist's work has achieved what few do: identity. An unmistakable and persistent identity. Nothing in Manuel Hernández's work could be attributed to another artist.
