Edgar Negret Sculptor

Edgar Negret is a major figure in contemporary Colombian sculpture. Born in Popayán, he started with an early sensitivity for volume and, during his travels, especially in New York, found the modern language that would transform his work. There he understood sculpture as construction, space, and thought. Upon discovering aluminum, he turned an industrial material into the instrument of his own voice: rigorous, refined, silent, and profoundly original.

This book explores, with an anthological perspective, the essential stages of his creation: from his first ceramics and magical apparatuses to masks, temples, fortresses, bridges, stairs, couplings, metamorphoses, butterflies, suns, moons, caves, columns, and totems. Each chapter reveals a formal and symbolic investigation where color, void, fold, and screw do not decorate: they construct meaning, rhythm, balance, presence, and an interior architecture of great strength.
