Museum of Modern Art of Cartagena de Indias
This volume reflects the trajectory of the Museum of Modern Art of Cartagena de Indias, from the first founding intention that coincided in 1959 with the delivery made to the city by the Organization of American States (OAS) of a unique donation with works by great painters. Latin Americans with works by great Latin American painters of that time, until its current establishment as one of the most prestigious institutions of its kind in Colombia, not only for its location in a privileged place in one of the most significant cities in the country, but for its extraordinary collection of paintings and sculptures.
The book includes a substantial overview, thanks to high-quality graphic material for an outstanding compilation in which, in addition to numerous examples of international modern art from the second half of the 20th century, there is perhaps the most representative sample of the Cartagena plastic art, with works by the great masters born in the city or who have lived there and with examples of numerous contemporary painters who work in the “Corralito de piedra”.
It is also possible, through these pages, to appreciate the trends that Colombian plastic arts in general and Caribbean art have followed, both nationally and internationally, in the last 50 years.
