More than 80 years ago, the oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) was introduced to Colombia with a view to achieving self-sufficiency for the country in oils and fats. Over time, the tangible benefits of this industry have made it one of the most important lines of the national economy. The splendid images and eloquent figures that this book gives us account of this successful evolution and its contributions to the development, employment and income of the regions where it is grown and processed, as well as its significance for national agriculture.
