The Andean Bear
Villegas Editores presents El Oso Andino (The Andean Bear), a work that brings together an extraordinary photographic collection by Sebastián Di Domenico, who spent four years documenting the spectacled bear, one of the continent's most elusive animals, in Chingaza National Natural Park. The book is the result of patient and respectful work, with dozens of never-before-seen images that capture bears in complete freedom: playing, raising cubs, and solitary walks among frailejones and bromeliads in the Andean mist. The photographs are accompanied by revealing texts based on updated scientific research, in accessible, poetic, and educational language. The Andean bear is the only South American species and the last living representative of the prehistoric subfamily Tremarctinae, inhabiting the Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia. The work is an invitation to view with respect and commitment the species that represents the Andean soul, reminding us that to conserve is to understand and to love.
