To honor the centenary of the birth of President Virgilio Barco (1921 -1997), an entire project has been developed that consists of exhibitions, colloquiums and the publication of Virgilio Barco, Homenaje - a profusely illustrated three-volume box - edited by Villegas Editores, directed by Fernando Cepeda Ulloa, with selection and introductory notes by Marino Tadeo Henao.
This work, which begins with a chronology, is built from the enormous legacies of President Barco (1986-1990) to Colombians:
As an incredible creator of national infrastructures, as minister of public works, among other positions and transformer of cities, where the urban planning shift to Bogotá stands out, as Mayor; with its economic policy, social productivity of public resources and poverty eradication; with the transcendental legacy for the rights of indigenous peoples, the recognition of their territories and therefore the protection of the environment; as a defender of democracy, where his vision is presented to move from the hegemonic National Front to the government-opposition scheme and how he prepares the country and its institutions for the “Constituent Assembly” process, preliminary to the 1991 Constitution, the peace process with the M-19 and the fight against drug trafficking.
