The authors suggested ideas for the development of actions, many of which were addressed and served as a guide for the government of Virgilio Barco, the president who until that date granted natives collective ownership of the largest Amazonian territory in the country's history: matters such as containing colonization, the distribution of oil and mining royalties, the needs and aspirations of local populations, and conserving ecological systems without overlooking the role these territories play in continental development.

Colombia Amazónica pleasantly compiles the set of ecosystems that make up this region of great scientific interest—due to the variety of plant and animal species, many unknown or little studied; the aboriginal inhabitants who have lived with the jungle for millennia, their profound knowledge and adaptation to this environment.
